minnesota dreamin'...kindred spirits and coffeeshops

most people on a dreary pittsburgh day would be dreaming of california or some tropical island off the coast of such-and-such, but not this girl. today i'm minnesota dreamin'. minneapolis, minnesota that is.

i've tried to write about my time there this past june and have never been able to finish anything. kris and i made the 15+ hour trek out there in my honda civic at the beginning of the summer by way of a half way stay in chicago to be among the community of source ministries. what we have found there has been a body of people and a movement of Christ's love and purpose that have pulled on our hearts in a way neither of us can shake. it was not the lectures i heard or the activities that were planned that opened my mind and heart but instead the beautiful tapestry of brothers and sisters and their stories, living their lives there and seeking with holy abandon and faith to see a release of God's freedom. the city of minneapolis is painfully broken and, at the same time, so light. i heard doug pagitt say once that too often people look at cities with solomn faces as if to say "it's too bad that God has lost the battle here." quite the contrary, what i see is incredibly bright. i have not often experienced the presence of God moving so intensely within a place the way He is in minneapolis. conversations with kindred spirits in coffeeshops left me considering that i had missed the mind blowing idea that perhaps God's love for me was not conditional. t

oday i'm missing this city and the beautifully imperfect saints in it.
